What are the infected in The Last of Us called?
Their names depend on the stage of infection:
- Stage 1: Runners. The person has just been infected, and the fungus hasn’t fully spread through the body, so they still appear human, although they are not.
- Stage 2: Stalkers. About two weeks post-infection, the fungus begins to visibly grow and the skin starts to peel. At this stage, human sounds are lost and replaced with croaks.
- Stage 3: Clickers. By now, the cordyceps has fully deformed the head, eliminating the eyes. Their heads resemble giant flowers blooming from the skull.
- Stage 4: Bloaters or Shamblers. At this point, the fungal plates have hardened, acting as armor. These creatures are slow and clumsy, but much more aggressive.
