The 19th season of Taskmaster is about to kick off – who are the contestants this time around and where do viewers know them from?

The popular Channel 4 comedy game show launches on Thursday night (May 1) and will run for 10 weeks, concluding on July 3. Once again, the Taskmaster Greg Davies will be joined by his assistant Alex Horne, the show’s original creator.

The new season coincides with the 10th anniversary of the show’s first appearance on the airwaves, having debuted in July 2015. Since then, the show has gone on to air in 120 countries and has found success on YouTube with 1.6million subscribers and 895million views since their official channel launched. Taskmaster: The Live Experience has also been a success in London.

Earlier this month, footage emerged of the original stage incarnation of Taskmaster, which was first performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2010.

Horne played the title role in that first version, with the idea having been inspired by The Crystal Maze, as well as Horne’s work on Big Brother, and his envy of his close friend Tim Key winning the Edinburgh Comedy Award in 2009.

The original format saw him send 20 comedians monthly tasks by email over the course of a year. He then presented their efforts as part of a two-hour show at the 2010 Edinburgh Festival Fringe with the slightly different title The Task Master.
