31 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

BENNY THE BUTCHER – “DUFFLE BAG HOTTIE’S REVENGE” (ft. BOLDY JAMES)

Benny the Butcher will release a new 7-song project, Excelsior, this Friday (5/2). Ahead of its release, here’s a new track with Boldy James.

BLONDSHELL – “EVENT OF A FIRE”

Blondshell’s highly anticipated new album arrives this Friday, and ahead of its release she’s shared a final advance single, “Event of a Fire.” “It’s not really ‘what if I’m burnt out from touring,’” she says. “It’s like, ‘what if I’m burnt out from just existing?'”

7SECONDS – “TIED UP IN RHYTHM” (2025 IAN MACKAYE REMIX)

7Seconds have shared one of the tracks from the upcoming New Wind reissue that features a version of the album entirely remixed by the LP’s original producer, Ian MacKaye.

KACEY MUSGRAVES – “LOST HIGHWAY” (HANK WILLIAMS COVER)

Kacey Musgraves has signed to the relaunched Lost Highway Records, and shared a new single for the label, a rendition of Hank Williams’ “Lost Highway,” originally written and recorded by Leon Payne. “Lost Highway was always a musical stable for artists who might be considered outliers or outlaws; those who live on the fringe,” she says. “In 2011, when other record labels questioned my songwriting and my more traditional country sound, Lost Highway believed in me, signing me to my first label deal and helped me take my music around the world. That journey has now come full circle in such a special way with John Janick and Interscope and I’m deeply honored to be able to once again call Lost Highway my musical home.”

MIKE & TONY SELZTER – “WYC4”

MIKE and Tony Seltzer have shared the second taste of their upcoming Pinball sequel.

SUFJAN STEVENS – “DEATH WITH DIGNITY (DEMO)”

Sufjan Stevens shared the second bonus track from the deluxe Carrie & Lowell 10th anniversary reissue, a previously unreleased demo of “Death with Dignity.”

AVALON EMERSON – “SO IT GOES”

Avalon Emerson recently signed to Dead Oceans and she’s gearing up to release a new project called Perpetual Emotion Machine, which is made up of tracks that were created for her DJ sets. The latest single is the thumping, catchy “So It Goes.”

MAL BLUM – “I’M SO BORED”

Mal Blum is back with their first new album in 5 years, The Villain, due out July 11 via Get Better. About the first single, “I’m So Bored,” they say, “On one hand, ‘I’m so Bored’ is about a very specific moment of disillusionment in a power-imbalanced relationship, when you realize someone’s bad behavior is actually so predictable that it’s almost trite. The other layer is clearly about myself – mired in familiar patterns, tired of my own bullshit, making cyclical mistakes. The video is kind of meant to reflect all of it. I have my own theories about what the dancers represent, but their movements can be: fun, erratic, chaotic, controlled, mechanical, coordinated, separate, supportive, or undermining, and I am both part of and divorced from them.”

MCKINLEY DIXON – “RECITATIF” (ft. TELLER BANK$)

McKinley Dixon’s latest taste of Magic, Alive! is another lush, live-instrumentation-infused rap song, and its release is accompanied by a tour announcement (including a Brooklyn show on 9/11 at Elsewhere Zone One).

SMERZ – “FEISTY”

Smerz’ anticipated new album Big city life arrive in May, and they’ve given us another preview with the cool, minimal “Feisty.”

NEW FOUND GLORY – “100%”

New Found Glory have signed to Pure Noise (whose longest-running flagship band The Story So Far are named after a NFG song), and their first single for the label follows the classic NFG formula.

TEI SHI – “DROP DEAD”

Tei Shi’s new album Make believe I Make believe is out this summer via The Orchard, and the latest single is sparkly alt-pop track “Drop Dead.” “Drop Dead is a song to the haters!,” she says. “We all have them, and sometimes the call is coming from inside the house as they say…I channeled some personal betrayals into this one, and it also came from revisiting some of my early relationship dynamics where I felt I had to dim my shine for someone else. I wanted the song to be an unabashed celebration of that shine we all carry, that pride and confidence within us that is at times stronger than others, and kind of poke fun at the idea of jealousy.”

TOPS – “ICU2”

Montreal band TOPS have signed with Ghostly and shared their first single for the label. Frontperson Jane Penny calls “ICU2” “almost like a caper, fantastical, like you’ve been caught searching for something in the dark.” Hopefully this is the first taste of TOPS’ new album which would be their first since 2020.

MIYA FOLICK – “LAID” (JAMES COVER)

Miya Folick has recorded the theme song for new Peacock TV series Laid. It is a cover of James’ hit of the same name and is an extremely faithful version of the song.

HOTLINE TNT – “CANDLE”

Here’s the second single from Hotline TNT’s upcoming album Raspberry Moon. “This song was the first thing we wrote for Raspberry Moon – it flowed out of our guitars quite effortlessly and it barely required even 1% of our power to put the parts in the correct order,” says Will Anderson. “Just to make sure it was as good as we thought it was, we brought the song over to Japan, and this video documents the reaction from that experiment. Candle is LIT.”

PIP BLOM – “RING”

Norwegian band Pip Blom have gone electronic, at least on the first single from their upcoming Grip EP. “Ring” has an early-’90s balaeric feel. “I realized that there was a massive part of music that I had never really listened to that I might actually really like,” Pip says. “I started thinking about the music that we made and if there would be a way to combine both worlds. We slowly started to incorporate more dance elements into our songs. It started subtle with Bobbie and now with this EP it has been a priority. I have really tried to keep it very Pip Blom; the main instruments are a little different, but the sounds, melodies and hooks are still very much us”.

A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS – “LET IT ALL GO” / THE SERFS – “TIME LEAKS AWAY (DUB)”

A Place to Bury Strangers have a new split 7″ with Ohio post-punks The Serfs that’s out via APTBS’ Destrange label.

Montreal’s Elle Barbara will release new album Word on the Street on June 27 via K and has just shared this new single from it. “Operating Thetan: Unknown is partly inspired by The House of the Rising Sun as well as my past foray and escape from the Church of Scientology,” Elle says. “It is deeply religious in aesthetic, and reflective of our cult-like obsessions and anxieties.”

SALLY SHAPIRO – “DID YOU CALL TONIGHT”

Microcheating is the theme of this new single,” say Sally Shapiro. “Musically it’s inspired by 80s electro breakbeat, a bit slower and funkier than our usual style.” New album Ready To Live A Lie is out May 30 via Italians Do It Better.

BEN FROST – “BLACK THREAD, ᠤᠯᠠᠭᠠᠨᠪᠠᠭᠠᠲᠤᠷ”
