Chris Eubank Jr gives first injury update after Conor Benn fight: ‘I had surgery’

Chris Eubank Jr has revealed he needed surgery on his eye following his win over Conor Benn. The victor was in hospital for two days before being discharged on Monday. And in a first update from the fighter himself since the fight, he revealed he is now rehabilitating but is feeling better. He told Sky Sports: “When you get into a fight for 12 rounds, there are injuries that are sustained. “I got headbutted above my eye around the middle of the fight. “It opened up and I had to go and have surgery on that to sew it up. “Conor Benn and Eddie Hearn ran away with the story of a broken jaw. “There’s no broken jaw here. We are strong. Our bones are dense. “When you’re in a fight like that, you have to go to hospital. “You have to get tested and looked after, but I’m feeling good and grateful that the fight was so well received.” Eubank Jr suffered cuts and swelling which saw him admitted to hospitalMark Robinson / Matchroom Boxing Eubank Jr had a swollen face and a cut above his eye, which resulted from an accidental headbutt. Benn too was eventually admitted to hospital for precautionary checks. The pair were staying on the same ward, but with a new found respect after their shared war. He had already faced struggles before the contest, forced to make a brutal weight cut and missing the limit anyway. But a rematch still remains on the table, with Benn currently holding a clause for a second meeting which he could choose to activate.
