Since its release, the sequel to Moana has been a huge box office success. The story of the daughter of the Polynesian tribe chief has managed to charm both young and old, leading many to wonder if Disney plans to release Moana 3.

The second part of the story was just released at the end of 2024; however, the ending of the film leaves many questions about the continuation of the story. Here’s what we know about it.

Will there be Moana 3?

As mentioned, the ending of the movie, as well as a post-credits scene (yes, in case you left before the end, there is a post-credits scene), give clues about Disney’s possible plan to continue Moana’s story and make a third installment. Let us explain.

SPOILER ALERT! If you’ve seen the movie, you know that, in the end, Moana dies in her mission to restore the lost island of Motufetu, as Nalo strikes her with his lightning; however, the ocean and the spirits of her ancestors bring her back to life.

After this, Moana transforms into a demigod, just like Maui, granting her a type of immortality that will allow her to live for over a thousand years. While this is a strong argument for the possibility of a third movie, there’s even more.

In the post-credits scene, Nalo is seen vowing to take revenge on Moana, so there are many possibilities that Moana 3 will become a reality. The truth is that Disney has not yet said anything about a third film of the Polynesian explorer.

When will Moana 3 be released?

If it materializes, the third installment of Moana could take several years to arrive, as we must remember that there was an eight-year gap between the release of the first two films.

But there’s good news! Disney is currently working on the live-action remake of Moana. The movie is scheduled to release in July 2026, with Catherine Laga’aia as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as Maui.

What would Moana 3 be about?
