Vinicius Jr. was born on July 12, 2000, in São Gonçalo, a town located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He grew up in the Porto do Rosauna neighborhood, known for being one of the most vulnerable and impoverished areas of the city. Since childhood, he dreamed of becoming a professional footballer, hoping to provide his family with a safer place to live.

At the age of four, he began his football journey at the local Fla school. In 2010, he joined the youth academy of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, where he started as a defender but quickly found his place as a forward. At just 16 years old, Vinicius signed his first professional contract with Flamengo and moved with his parents and siblings to one of Rio de Janeiro’s most exclusive areas.

In 2015, he won the South American U-15 Championship in Colombia, where he stood out by scoring six goals. Due to his great performance, he made his debut with the first team on May 13, 2017; however, just a few days later, on May 23, his signing with Real Madrid was confirmed, although it became official in 2018.
