Chipotle Is Giving Away Free Burritos

According to the company, 50,000 users will win free burritos through Chipotle’s new immersive digital game, “Ingredient Quest“, which is part of the Burrito Builder experience on Roblox. The game challenges players to collect virtual cards representing Chipotle’s 53 ingredients for a chance to win.

The game captures the excitement of opening collectible card packs and celebrating rare finds. Just like real-world collectibles, each digital ingredient pack on Roblox includes five cards with original artwork. Here’s how it works:

  • Roblox users will meet a virtual Chipotle employee inside the Burrito Builder restaurant experience. They’ll receive a starter pack of five unique ingredient cards to kick off Ingredient Quest.
  • The goal is to collect all 53 unique ingredient cards.
  • Players must build burritos in the game to earn Burrito Bucks. Four Burrito Bucks can be redeemed for one pack of five ingredient cards. There are 40 cards available through packs.
  • The remaining eight rare ingredient cards are hidden within the Burrito Builder world and can be found in a virtual scavenger hunt.
  • The first 50,000 players to collect all 53 cards will unlock a free entrée reward.

What Is Cinco de Mayo?

In Mexico, Cinco de Mayo is not considered a nationwide holiday, but rather a historical commemoration of the Mexican army’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla. Despite being outnumbered, Mexican troops, led by General Ignacio Zaragoza, defeated the French army in Puebla de los Ángeles during France’s military intervention in Mexico. This retreat marked a pivotal moment, symbolizing the country’s determination to defend its sovereignty against a foreign power.

Why Is Cinco de Mayo Celebrated in the United States?

The first Cinco de Mayo celebration in the U.S. took place in 1863, organized by Mexican residents in California who wished to honor their homeland’s victory. At the time, many Americans were also concerned about France’s support for the Confederacy during the U.S. Civil War.

Over time, the date grew in popularity, especially thanks to advertising campaigns by American beer companies, which promoted the holiday among Hispanic communities and encouraged beer consumption. Today, Cinco de Mayo is widely celebrated across the United States, where people enjoy traditional Mexican food such as tacos, guacamole, and enchiladas, typically accompanied—of course—by beer.
