“Minecraft” Heading For $100M+ Opening

The first quarter of 2025 has been rather disastrous at the box-office, but a turnaround may finally be here.

Beleaguered Warner Bros. Pictures has a massive hit on their hands it seems as, despite the mixed reviews, Legendary’s “A Minecraft Movie” looks set to surpass even the rosiest expectations of the studio.

The title is reportedly on track $50 million today along, a number that includes nearly $11 million in previews last night. That’s the all-time preview record for a movie based on a video game.

Domestic projections for the film’s opening weekend were as low as $65 million a few weeks ago – now some are suggesting it could earn double that at around $130 million.

What is for sure is the film is set to earn above $100 million by end of Sunday – easily the biggest opening year-to-date and helping push this to the biggest weekend of the year to date at the box-office. Internationally the film is expected to do roaring business as well with projections currently at around $90 million for the weekend from overseas markets alone.

“The Chosen: Last Supper – Part 2” looks set to take second place with $7.2 million for the weekend followed by “A Working Man” with $6.8 million, “Snow White” with $5.7 million and “The Woman in the Yard” with $3.7 million.
