Amex Membership Rewards Points Transfer Bonus: 20% for Aeromexico Rewards & Etihad Guest

American Express Membership Rewards has made yet another points transfer promotion available to their U.S.-based members, offering a 20% bonus on Membership Rewards transfers to both Aeromexico Rewards & Etihad Guest.

Both Aeromexico Rewards and Etihad Guest members get 20% additional miles when they transfer Amex Membership Rewards points through April 30, 2025.

This promotion is showing card accounts with Membership Rewards earning capability and the official expiration date of this campaign is April 30, 2025. 

Transferring Membership Rewards points from Amex to Etihad Guest is usually 1:1 in increments of 1000 and during the promotional period, members will benefit from the 1000:1200 ratio (20% bonus).

There are several opportunities to use Etihad Guest miles, including for Upgrade Awards and certain sweet spots on partner carriers. It’s still not my favorite program, but it all depends on the award you’re trying to redeem.

Over the years, I have tried to make this program work for myself, but never managed to create a good use scenario. The only advantage of taking Etihad is that when flying to North America they have the pre-clearance facility available in Abu Dhabi.

Transferring Membership Rewards points from Amex to Aeromexico Rewards is 1:1.6 in increments of 1000, and right now, members can convert 1000:1920 (20% bonus).

Aeromexico isn’t the most popular airline or program to transfer points to, but there are some niche awards/routings in the Americas that members can take advantage of in conjunction with this Amex transfer promotion. 

There are some niche routes where Aeromexico makes sense, and certain routings are quite affordable for business class travel using miles. That being said, I’d always compare paid revenue fares to points.

This conversion bonus is usually available 1-2x per year from Membership Rewards USA, so it’s something to consider when deciding whether to convert the points.

Conclusion

Amex has brought back the transfer bonus campaign for customers who wish to move Membership Rewards points to Aeromexico or Etihad guest, this time offering a 20% bonus.

Despite there being some cases where it can make sense, I probably wouldn’t transfer my valuable Amex points to either program and hold out for better offers – and better airlines. I don’t see anything thrilling on the award charts and selections so there is probably a better use for points with other partners.
