Lorde announces new album ‘Virgin’

Lorde has officially announced her highly anticipated new album, Virgin. It’s the follow-up to 2021’s Solar Power, and it’s due out on June 27 via Universal. She co-produced it with Jim-E Stack, and it also features contributions from Fabiana Palladino, Andrew Aged, Buddy Ross, Dan Nigro, and Devonté Hynes. Spike Stent and Tom Elmhirst mixed it, Chris Gehringer mastered it, and the tracklist is still to be announced, but you can see the cover art below.

As Stereogum points out, Lorde also offered the following in an email to fans about the album:

THE COLOUR OF THE ALBUM IS CLEAR. LIKE BATHWATER, WINDOWS, ICE, SPIT. FULL TRANSPARENCY. THE LANGUAGE IS PLAIN AND UNSENTIMENTAL. THE SOUNDS ARE THE SAME WHEREVER POSSIBLE. I WAS TRYING TO SEE MYSELF, ALL THE WAY THROUGH. I WAS TRYING TO MAKE A DOCUMENT THAT REFLECTED MY FEMININITY: RAW, PRIMAL, INNOCENT, ELEGANT, OPENHEARTED, SPIRITUAL, MASC. I’M PROUD AND SCARED OF THIS ALBUM. THERE’S NOWHERE TO HIDE. I BELIEVE THAT PUTTING THE DEEPEST PARTS OF OURSELVES TO MUSIC IS WHAT SETS US FREE. COMING JUNE 27

After teasing the song earlier this month, Lorde shared the first single from Virgin, “What Was That,” last week. The accompanying video was filmed around NYC, including at a Washington Square Park event that was shut down, then happened hours later. Watch that below.

Lorde also recently joined Charli XCX at weekend one of Coachella.
