Rilo Kiley’s first tour in 17 years continues…
Having kicked off their reunion tour in California earlier this month, Rilo Kiley are still touring the West Coast as they make their way towards this weekend’s Kilby Block Party. On Wednesday night (5/14) they stopped in Morrison, CO for a show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Thankfully an afternoon storm cleared up in time for their set, but chilly temperatures meant that Jenny Lewis wore a coat over her polka dot dress for part of the night. She and the band have been sticking to similar setlists so far for these shows, including a good mix of favorites from throughout their discography but mixing up the sequence a bit, and they sounded fantastic, especially in the gorgeous Red Rocks setting.
Jenny’s The Postal Service bandmate, Death Cab for Cutie frontman Benjamin Gibbard, stepped in to open Wednesday night’s show after Julien Baker and Torres cancelled their spring tour, and Ben paid tribute to Julien with a cover of her song “Sprained Ankle.” He joked that he was doing a greatest hits set, but acoustic and slowed down, and emphasized how happy he was to open for Rilo Kiley, who he said he hadn’t seen since 2007.
