Hutson, Wolf and Celebrini named Calder Trophy finalists

The NHL has named its top three rookies. Montreal Canadiens defenceman Lane Hutson, San Jose Sharks forward Macklin Celebrini and Calgary Flames goaltender Dustin Wolf were selected in a poll by the Professional Hockey Writers Association as finalists for the Calder Trophy, the league announced Monday. Hutson is looking to become the first Montreal rookie to win the award since Ken Dryden did in 1972. The last defenceman to take home the award was Jacques Laperriere in 1964. Hutson led all rookies with 66 points and 60 assists this season.  Celebrini finished tied for second among rookies with 63 points this season and second in goals and assists. The Vancouver native was selected first overall by the Sharks in the 2024 NHL Draft.  Wolf had an impressive campaign with the Flames, going 29-16-8 with a 2.64 goals-against average and .910 save percentage. Wolf almost willed the Flames to the playoffs despite Calgary recording the fourth-fewest goals in the league.
