Visit the Aion Malaysia Facebook page and you’ll see this flyer, teasing the upcoming GAC Aion Hyptec HT‘s 600 km range, 22 Dolby Atmos speakers and “first-class seat” with “foldable table”. It also adds that registration of interest (which has been open since December) can be done on the company’s website.
This is very possibly the first time Aion Malaysia is referring to this model as the ‘Hyptec HT’. The name used in China, ‘Hyper HT’, was bandied about before this, being used when interest registration opened as well as when the car was previewed during the Malaysia Autoshow 2024. So it seems Malaysia – like Thailand and Indonesia – will use the export-market name, Hyptec HT.
The teaser doesn’t say if the 600 km range touted is CLTC, but if it is, that suggests a 72.7 kWh battery and a 245 PS/355 Nm single rear motor (0-100 km/h in 6.8 seconds), based on what’s available in China. But if the 600 km quoted is in fact NEDC, our car could mirror Thai and Indonesian specs – 83.3 kWh battery and 340 PS/430 Nm single rear motor (0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds).
For context, China gets two motor outputs and four battery sizes – 245 PS with 70 kWh (550 km range) or 72.7 kWh (600 km range), or 340 PS with 80 kWh (670 km range) or 99.5 kWh (825 km range). All ranges quoted are CLTC.
The 4,935 mm-long, 1,920 mm-wide and 1,700 mm-tall Hyptec HT’s party piece is its falcon rear doors, which open gullwing-style like the Tesla Model X. Inside, you look at a 8.8-inch digital instrument panel above (rather than through) a small steering wheel, Peugeot style. There’s also a 14.6-inch touchscreen.
The GAC Aion Hyptec HT is already on sale in Thailand for 1.449 million-1.749 million baht (RM189k-228k, the higher price gets you the gullwing doors) and in Indonesia from 685 million rupiah (RM183k) – how much do you think it will ask for in Malaysia?
