Canadiens’ Josh Anderson out vs. Flyers for family reasons

The Montreal Canadiens will be without forward Josh Anderson as they take on the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night.

Montreal announced the news shortly before puck drop, citing family reasons for Anderson’s absence.

Oliver Kapanen will take his place.

Anderson told reporters after Thursday’s win over the Boston Bruins that his wife was due to give birth any day.

The 30-year-old winger has been a consistent presence in the Canadiens’ bottom-six this season, tallying 14 goals and 25 points while averaging just over 14 minutes of ice time in 75 games.

Kapanen has played 12 games in his rookie season with Montreal, registering a pair of assists. A second-round pick in 2021, Kapnanen spent the majority of the 2024-25 campaign on loan with Timra IK of the Swedish Hockey League. While overseas, he scored 15 goals and 35 points in 36 games.
