Id Software recently revealed the first look at the Cosmic Realm, a new area from the studio’s upcoming game Doom: The Dark Ages. Microsoft showed off the level with a PlayStation Blog post, which has left fans of the green gaming brand a bit upset.

PlayStation gets exclusive first look of Xbox’s Doom: The Dark Ages’ Cosmic Realm level

As pointed out by Push Square, id Software wanted to give PlayStation players “something special” before Doom: The Dark Ages’ launch in May. So, Game Director Hugo Martin took to the PlayStation Blog to give players a glimpse of the new Lovecraft-inspired dimension. A new trailer showcasing the area has only been posted to PlayStation’s YouTube channel. Check it out below:

With all things considered, this really isn’t anything to fuss over. The new Cosmic Realm will be present in Doom: The Dark Ages on all platforms. Also, the video is available to watch on YouTube, a platform available for everyone to use. Anyone can simply just watch the video. So, it’s a bit odd seeing pushback on this.

Regardless, Martin is making some pretty bold claims about Doom: The Dark Ages. Specifically, he states the studio believes it is “the best Doom game we’ve ever made.”

“One of them is totally unique for a Doom game, a space we’ve never been to but a world we’ve wanted to incorporate into the Doom universe for a while: the Cosmic Realm,” says Martin about the new area. “You will bear witness to the cyclopean architecture of this Lovecraftian dimension as you explore its darkest secrets and battle its most insane enemies.”

“An unholy union between Hell and the Cosmic Realm has been formed,” continues Martin. “You’re going to have to experience the story to find out why—but this partnership has given birth to a new host of adversaries for the Slayer to confront.”

Doom: The Dark Ages releases on May 15 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Players who purchase the Premium Edition will get access to the game beginning on May 13.
