Watch live: House panel convenes hearing on air traffic control, staffing shortages

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation is convening a hearing Tuesday morning on air traffic control and staffing shortages in the wake of multiple plane accidents and near-collisions.

The event comes just over a month after the crash of a military helicopter and American Airlines passenger plane left more than 60 people dead near Reagan Washington National Airport. Following the collision, President Trump and his administration called for the overhaul of air traffic control and the Federal Aviation Administration and began firing hundreds of FAA employees last month.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and senior Trump adviser Elon Musk have suggested bringing back retired air traffic controllers and raising the mandatory retirement age to mitigate shortages. Senators on both sides of the aisle have also called for increased funding for the agency.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EST.
