Scherer Sport PHX has confirmed the driver lineup for its two-car effort in next month’s Nürburgring 24, with reigning Hypercar world champion Laurens Vanthoor returning the team for the first time in nearly a decade.
As previously reported by Sportscar365, the Belgian will share the No. 16 Porsche 911 GT3 R with Patric Niederhauser and defending N24 winner Ricardo Feller, with the latter the only member of last year’s winning lineup to have been retained by the team.
Notably, Patrick Pilet, who formed part of the team in NLS previously, will not tackle the Eifel endurance classic with the team.
Vanthoor spent part of his Audi years competing for what was then called Phoenix Racing, notably tackling the 2014 edition of the N24 with the team.
He also contested two out of three rounds of the 2016 Intercontinental GT Challenge with Phoenix, winning that year’s Sepang 12 Hours en route to the drivers’ championship title.
The No. 1 Audi, meanwhile, will be driven by multi-time N24 winners Christopher Haase and Markus Winkelhock as well as 2022 polesitter Luca Ludwig.
The Audi, in contrast to the Michelin-shod Porsche, will be run on Yokohama tires.
“We are delighted to be able to present such a strong line-up with the help of our partners,” said Scherer Group CEO Christian Scherer.
“Porsche has already entrusted us with its works driver Laurens Vanthoor and its two contract drivers Ricardo Feller and Patric Niederhauser for our first 24-hour race with the 911 GT3 R.
“With Christopher Haase, Luca Ludwig and Markus Winkelhock, we have a second powerful and well-balanced team in our Audi R8 LMS at the start.”
Eastalent to Make N24 Debut With Audi
Scherer Sport PHX will be joined in the Audi camp at the N24 by Austrian squad Eastalent Racing, which will enter a single car as part of its debut in the event.
The No. 84 Audi is set be piloted by an all-Austrian crew, as former Formula 1 racer Christian Klien teams up with Max Hofer, Simon Reicher and Norbert Siedler.
Eastalent has previously competed in International GT Open and GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS and won the Michelin 24H Dubai in 2024.
