James Purefoy (“Solomon Kane,” “Rome”) and Charlotte Riley (“Edge of Tomorrow,” “Peaky Blinders”) have been cast as King Randor and Queen Marlena in the live-action “Masters of the Universe” movie at Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films.
The film is based on the classic 1980s toy line and early 1980s cartoon series. In the seris, Castle Grayskull is the target of numerous attacks by Skeletor and others – all of whom believe the secrets inside will allow them to conquer the mystical land of Eternia and then the entire universe.
King Randor has no clue that his son turns into the heroic He-Man, believing him to be a lazy, duty-shirking layabout. The Queen develops a few suspicions though.
They join a cast that includes Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man, Camila Mendes as Teela, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-At-Arms, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress, and Jared Leto as Skeletor.
Also onboard are Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Fisto, and Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops.
Travis Knight is directing the film from a script by Chris Butler with first draft by David Callaham, and Aaron and Adam Nee. Story specifics are under wraps. The film is set to release theatrically worldwide on June 5th 2026.
