Alignment: un’ esplorazione ipnotica nello spazio profondo

Alignment ha pubblicato il suo ultimo lavoro “Mystical Energy” sulla KNTXT di Charlotte de Witte. Lo abbiamo incontrato per farci raccontare l’ ispirazione dietro l’Ep e la sua evoluzione artistica.

Alignment figura tra gli artisti italiani che negli ultimi hanno conquistato una grandissima fetta di pubblico a livello internazionale. Muovendo i primi passi nella scena underground berlinese, il sound di Alignment si è evoluto dalle iniziale contaminazioni industrial verso un perfetto mix di hard techno e trance anni ’90, tra sample robotici, bassi profondi e ritmi incalzanti.

Con la sua etichetta discografica Orbital, lanciata nel 2024, Alignment sta plasmando la sua personale idea di techno. Lo scorso 24 aprile l’ uscita del suo ultimo Ep “Mystical Energy” ha rappresentato un nuovo capitolo per la sua carriera artistica. Abbiamo voluto farci raccontare da lui l’ ispirazione dietro questo lavoro, il rapporto con Charlotte De Witte, la sua posizione rispetto alle possibilità che la scena elettronica offre ai nuovi talenti e i desideri per il futuro. Ciao Alignment, benvenuto su Parkett Channel. Siamo qui in occasione della release “Mystical Energy”, il tuo ultimo Ep di 4 tracce. Dovessi descrivere il sound come un viaggio o un paesaggio sonoro, quale immaginario sonoro rappresenterebbe?

Grazie per l’invito, è un piacere essere qui. Se dovessi descrivere “Mystical Energy” come un viaggio sonoro, lo vedrei come un’esplorazione ipnotica nello spazio profondo: ogni traccia rappresenta una fase di questo percorso. Sono da sempre affascinato dall’immaginario futuristico, dalla fantascienza e da tutto ciò che riguarda il mistero dell’universo. Questo EP è un tentativo di trasformare quel tipo di immaginario in suono, di far viaggiare la mente dell’ascoltatore tra galassie lontane, come se ogni traccia fosse un portale verso un’altra realtà, quasi sospesa nel tempo.

Questo nuovo capitolo rappresenta un’evoluzione importante nel sound: come hai integrato nuove influenze o tendenze musicali nel tuo lavoro senza perdere la tua identità?

Evolversi è essenziale, soprattutto in un genere come la techno che vive di continua sperimentazione. In “Mystical Energy” ho voluto esplorare nuove texture e dinamiche, lasciandomi ispirare anche da elementi più industriali e ritmiche spezzate che ultimamente mi hanno colpito molto. La sfida è stata proprio quella di incorporare queste nuove influenze senza snaturare la mia visione: ho mantenuto intatto il mio approccio ipnotico e atmosferico, ma cercando nuove strade per farlo evolvere. Per me è importante che ogni release rappresenti un passo avanti, ma che sia sempre riconoscibile, come se il mio “mondo sonoro” si espandesse di volta in volta.Un aspetto che ho voluto enfatizzare in questo EP è l’uso di vocal che abbiano un impatto più diretto sull’ascoltatore, che lo coinvolgano in modo più profondo. Rispetto ad altri lavori, queste voci non sono solo un complemento alla traccia, ma diventano parte integrante dell’esperienza, capaci di catturare l’attenzione e di creare un legame emotivo più forte con chi ascolta. Ho voluto che le parti vocali avessero un effetto più travolgente, quasi un’onda che si sovrappone e interagisce con la struttura sonora, aumentando la sensazione di immersione.

L’Ep è composto da 4 tracce, ti va di associare ad ogni traccia un aggettivo o un’emozione che la possa descrivere ed identificare?

Come accennavo prima, “Mystical Energy”, pur essendo composto da quattro tracce diverse, nasce da una visione unica, come un portale che trasporta la mente dell’ascoltatore in una dimensione trascendentale. Ogni traccia è concepita per spingere la mente, mia e di chi ascolta, oltre i confini della realtà, verso l’infinito sconosciuto.Per me, l’intero EP è un’esperienza che esplora l’ignoto, e ogni traccia rappresenta una fase di questo viaggio. Quindi, anche se ogni pezzo ha una sua identità, tutte si legano attraverso un’emozione comune: quella di ampliare la percezione e spingersi oltre. In un certo senso, potrei dire che l’EP è come una sequenza di attimi che ci porta da uno stato di “sospensione” a uno di “immersione”, guidando l’ascoltatore in un’esplorazione senza fine.

La release esce su KNTXT, a dimostrazione di un legame di fiducia e stima che dura nel tempo. Quali elementi pensi che tu e Charlotte condividiate nella vostra musica o nella vostra filosofia artistica?

Il fatto che la nostra collaborazione duri da anni è una prova che tra me e Charlotte c’è una vera affinità, sia a livello umano che artistico. Fin dall’inizio della nostra collaborazione ci siamo trovati subito, c’era una sintonia naturale nelle nostre visioni musicali. Ogni volta che Charlotte mi chiede se voglio rilasciare un EP sulla sua etichetta, è sempre un piacere per me inviarle le tracce e condividerle con lei. È un rapporto di reciproca fiducia, dove non si tratta solo di fare musica, ma anche di un legame di stima che va al di là del semplice aspetto lavorativo. Entrambi crediamo nell’autenticità del suono e nella possibilità di esplorare nuovi orizzonti, ed è questa visione condivisa che rende KNTXT l’habitat perfetto per la mia musica.

A proposito di collaborazioni: Se potessi collaborare con un artista per creare una track che rappresenti il “sound Alignment” in questo momento, chi sceglieresti e perché?

Quando penso a una collaborazione ideale, uno degli artisti che mi viene subito in mente è Skrillex. Da sempre è uno dei miei produttori preferiti, e credo che lavorare con lui potrebbe davvero portare la mia espressione artistica verso nuovi orizzonti. La sua innovazione e la sua voglia di sperimentare sono qualità che ammiro e con cui mi piacerebbe confrontarmi, spingendo la mia musica in direzioni ancora più futuristiche e coinvolgenti.

Oggi la musica elettronica soprattutto techno sta costruendo un business sempre maggiore, come pensi che questo mercato possa diventare più democratico per gli artisti?

Sicuramente, l’ambiente musicale in generale è molto più democratico oggi rispetto al passato, grazie soprattutto alle numerose piattaforme che sono emerse negli ultimi anni, che permettono a chiunque di condividere la propria musica e farsi conoscere. Questo è un enorme vantaggio, perché offre a molti artisti la possibilità di farsi notare senza necessariamente dover passare per le tradizionali vie di accesso, come le etichette discografiche più grandi.Detto ciò, credo che il ruolo delle etichette e degli addetti ai lavori non debba essere sottovalutato. Nel mio caso, ad esempio, essere stato rifiutato da tante etichette mi ha spinto a migliorare costantemente le mie produzioni e a perfezionare il mio sound. Le difficoltà, pur essendo degli ostacoli, sono quelle che ti fanno crescere come artista.

Nei tuoi set la progressione ha una dimensione assolutamente centrale:come si crea una narrazione e in che modo costruisci la storia attraverso la musica?

Non è sempre facile riuscire a creare quel tipo di narrazione che, per me, è fondamentale nello sviluppo di un buon set. Ogni volta che salgo in console, cerco di trasmettere il mio percorso musicale, le mie influenze, le mie emozioni — e di farlo in modo che chi è sulla pista possa sentirsi parte di questo viaggio.La chiave sta tutta nel creare una connessione: con la musica, ma soprattutto con il pubblico. Costruisco i miei set in modo progressivo, lasciando che l’energia si evolva traccia dopo traccia, come una storia che si svela lentamente. Ogni passaggio ha un ruolo preciso e serve a guidare chi ascolta verso un’esperienza che sia intensa, coinvolgente, e il più possibile condivisa.

Ultima domanda: qual è l’ augurio che fai in generale alla musica elettronica e quale augurio vuoi fare a te stesso Alignment?

Alla musica elettronica auguro di continuare a evolversi rimanendo fedele alla sua natura più profonda: quella della sperimentazione, della libertà e della ricerca continua. Spero che non perda mai quella forza capace di unire le persone attraverso l’energia del suono e della pista, al di là delle mode o del mercato.A me stesso auguro di continuare a sorprendermi, a restare curioso e fedele alla mia visione. Vorrei poter continuare a crescere, sia come artista che come persona, senza perdere l’entusiasmo che mi ha fatto iniziare questo viaggio.

Hi Alignment, welcome to Parkett Channel. We’re here to celebrate therelease of “Mystical Energy,” your latest EP featuring four tracks. Ifyou had to describe the sound as a journey or a soundscape, what kind ofsonic imagery would it represent?

Thank you for having me, it’s a pleasure to be here. If I had to describe Mystical Energy as a sonic journey, I’d see it as a hypnotic exploration through deep space: each track representing a different phase of that path. I’ve always been fascinated by futuristic imagery, science fiction, and everything that touches on the mystery of the universe. This EP is my attempt to translate that kind of imagination into sound, to take the listener’s mind on a voyage through distant galaxies, as if each track were a portal into another reality, almost suspended in time.

This new chapter marks a significant evolution in your sound: how have you integrated new influences or musical trends into your work without losing your identity?

Evolving is essential, especially in a genre like techno, which thrives on constant experimentation. In Mystical Energy, I wanted to explore new textures and dynamics, drawing inspiration from more industrial elements and broken rhythms that have really caught my attention recently.The challenge was to incorporate these new influences without losing my vision: I kept my hypnotic and atmospheric approach intact, while looking for new ways to evolve it.

For me, it’s important that each release represents a step forward, but still feels recognisable, as if my “sonic world” is expanding with each new project.One aspect I wanted to emphasise in this EP is the use of vocals that have a more direct impact on the listener, drawing them in more deeply. Compared to my previous work, these vocals aren’t just a complement to the track; they become an integral part of the experience, capturing attention and creating a stronger emotional connection with the listener. I wanted the vocal parts to have a more overwhelming effect, almost like a wave that overlaps and interacts with the sound structure, increasing the sense of immersion.

The EP consists of four tracks, could you associate an adjective or an emotion with each track that captures its essence?

As I mentioned earlier, Mystical Energy, despite being composed of four distinct tracks, originates from a single vision, like a portal that transports the listener’s mind into a transcendental dimension. Each track is designed to push the mind, mine and the listener’s, beyond the boundaries of reality, towards the unknown infinite.

For me, the entire EP is an experience that explores the unknown, and each track represents a different stage of this journey. So, even though each piece has its own identity, they are all linked by a common emotion: the desire to expand perception and venture beyond. In a way, I could say that the EP is like a sequence of moments that takes us from a state of “suspension” to one of “immersion”, guiding the listener on an endless exploration.

The release is coming out on KNTXT, which showcases a long-standing bond of trust and respect. What elements do you think you and Charlotte share in your music or artistic philosophy?

The fact that our collaboration has lasted for years is proof that there is a genuine affinity between Charlotte and me, both on a personal and artistic level. From the very beginning of our partnership, we immediately clicked, there was a natural synergy in our musical visions. Every time Charlotte asks me if I want to release an EP on her label, it’s always a pleasure to send her my tracks and share them with her.

It’s a relationship built on mutual trust, where it’s not just about making music, but also about a bond of respect that goes beyond the professional side. We both believe in the authenticity of sound and the possibility of exploring new horizons, and it’s this shared vision that makes KNTXT the perfect environment for my music.

Speaking of collaborations: if you could team up with any artist to create a track that embodies your sound right now, who would you choose and why?

When I think of an ideal collaboration, one of the first artists that comes to mind is Skrillex. He has always been one of my favourite producers, and I believe working with him could truly take my artistic expression to new horizons. His innovation and willingness to experiment are qualities I admire and would love to challenge myself with, pushing my music in even more futuristic and immersive directions.

Today, electronic music, especially techno, is building an ever-growing business. How do you think this market can become more democratic for artists?

Certainly, the music industry in general is much more democratic today compared to the past, especially thanks to the numerous platforms that have emerged in recent years, allowing anyone to share their music and gain recognition. This is a huge advantage, as it gives many artists the opportunity to be noticed without necessarily having to go through traditional channels, like the larger record labels.That being said, I believe the role of record labels and industry professionals should not be underestimated. In my case, for example, being rejected by so many labels pushed me to constantly improve my productions and refine my sound. Difficulties, although they may seem like obstacles, are what truly make you grow as an artist.

In your sets, progression plays a central role: how do you create a narrative, and how do you construct the story through your music?

It’s not always easy to create the kind of narrative that, for me, is essential to the development of a good set. Every time I step behind the decks, I try to bring my musical journey to the crowd in front of me, my influences, my emotions, and to connect with them so we can experience that journey together.The key lies in creating a real connection: not just with the music, but with the audience. I build my sets progressively, allowing the energy to evolve track by track, like a story unfolding. Every transition has a purpose and is there to guide the listener through an experience that is intense, immersive, and as shared as possible.

Last question: what’s your wish for electronic music in general, and what wish do you have for yourself Alignment?

My wish for electronic music is that it continues to evolve while staying true to its deepest essence, experimentation, freedom, and constant exploration. I hope it never loses that power to bring people together through sound and energy on the dancefloor, beyond trends or commercial pressures.As for myself, I wish to keep being surprised, to stay curious and true to my vision. I hope to keep growing, both as an artist and as a person, without ever losing the excitement that made me start this journey in the first place.
