Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville (Picture: YouTube) Gary Neville was relishing the thought of one of Inter Milan’s players at Manchester United after watching the Italian club reach the Champions League. Inter somehow emerged triumphant in one of the greatest European ties in history, Simone Inzaghi’s side beating Barcelona 7-6 on aggregate to book their place in the 2025 Champions League. Inter Milan trailed with just minutes to go after Barca came from 2-0 down to lead 3-2 on the night, but scored a dramatic injury-time equaliser before winning in extra-time. Neville thoroughly enjoyed the Champions League classic and singled out ‘unbelievable’ Denzel Dumfries for praise. Dumfries, 29, was widely hailed for his impressive performance against Barcelona and Neville believes he would be a superb addition to the Premier League. The Manchester United legend even suggested his former club should look into signing the Dutch defender to play at right wing-back in Ruben Amorim’s favoured 4-3-3 system. Speaking on The Overlap, Neville said: ‘Do you know what I kept thinking during the game? I would like to see him in the Premier League, wouldn’t you? How good was he? He was unbelievable. He’s so good, so good.’ After a thrilling 3-3 draw in the first leg in Spain, Inter appeared to take control of the semi-final tie with two first-half goals against Barcelona. Lautaro Martinez recovered from an injury scare to put the Serie A side in front before winning a controversial penalty which Hakan Calhanoglu slotted home. Just when the tie looked over, Inter’s 37-year-old defender Francesco Acerbi turned home a dramatic winner to force extra-time and from there Davide Frattesi’s goal proved decisive. Dumfries was among the Inter players to address the press during their celebrations at the San Siro and the 29-year-old said: ‘Just another crazy match. ‘Six goals last week, seven today. It was incredible, we fought until the end, but very proud of the way we fought today. Just so happy that we’re going to the final. ‘I am very happy to help the team. I come back from injury so it was not easy. We have to fight every match for the colours of the club.’ Inter Milan will face French champions Paris Saint-Germain in the May 31 final after Luis Enrique’s side beat Arsenal 3-1 on aggregate. Looking ahead to the final, Dumfries added: ‘Two years ago we lost the final but we know everything is possible. We will fight for it.’ For more stories like this, check our sport page.
