In 2024, the department store chain Macy’s began closing several of its stores across the United States; however, the closures have continued this year, and in January, the brand announced it would shut down 66 more locations throughout 2025. Many of these locations have already ceased operations. If you’re a customer, here’s a guide to which department stores are still open, so you can shop before they say goodbye.

Which Macy’s stores are still open?

Of the 66 stores Macy’s plans to close this year, only two locations remain open… although not for much longer, as they’re expected to close by the end of the year. These are:

  • 459 Prospect Ave. W., West Orange, New Jersey
  • 88-01 Queens Blvd. in Elmhurst, Queens, New York

Why is Macy’s closing its stores?

The department store chain announced several months ago that it is facing financial difficulties. As part of a recovery strategy, it has started reducing the number of stores, focusing especially on underperforming locations.

This strategy aims to drive sustainable and profitable sales growth for the company. It includes closing around 150 underperforming stores over the next three years, while also investing in the remaining 350 stores scheduled for closure by the 2026 fiscal year.

What’s in Macy’s liquidation sale?

The stores that are about to close are offering customers a liquidation sale, where they can find up to 90% off the suggested retail price on remaining inventory.
