Abandoned! This is what the house where Salma Hayek grew up in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico looks like in 2025

Salma Hayek is one of the most recognized actresses in Hollywood. For many years, the Mexican actress left her homeland to pursue a career in acting, building a path that has led her to great success. But did you know that before becoming a famous actress, Salma was just a little girl who grew up playing with friends in the streets and on the beach? Here’s a look at the house where she grew up in her hometown: Coatzacoalcos,Veracruz.

Salma Hayek’s House in Coatzacoalcos

Just a few blocks from the ocean, at 520 18 de Marzo Avenue in downtown Coatzacoalcos, stands the house where Salma Hayek took her first steps. At the time, it was known as one of the most luxurious homes in the city, with wood details and marble finishes that made it stand out to all who passed by.

However, the house where young Salma once dreamed of becoming an actress is now a shadow of its former self. It appears completely abandoned, resembling a setting for a horror or disaster film.

Decades of neglect have left the facade covered in overgrowth. The staircase she once climbed is now decaying, and the large windows have disappeared—as if a hurricane had destroyed everything in its path.

Inside, the house is desolate: the entryway is full of garbage and debris, the TV room is ransacked, bedrooms are covered in graffiti, and the once-grand kitchen lies in ruins.

The beautiful garden with a pool is now overgrown and filled with stagnant water. In one garage, a blue Ford Ka still sits, never retrieved by its owners. The car now has broken windows and shows signs of decay.

For years, the house has been a shelter for homeless people and a hideout for criminals, making it a danger to the neighborhood.

What Happened to Salma Hayek’s Childhood Home?

Around 20 years ago, the house—already in ruins—was sold to singer Joan Sebastian, who planned to renovate it into a luxury restaurant. Salma was set to be the guest of honor at its opening. However, due to financial issues, the plan never materialized.

After Joan Sebastian’s death, the house was inherited by his son Julián Figueroa. In an interview, Julián stated that the house was already in poor condition when his father bought it and, though he had it cleaned a few times, he lacked the resources for renovations and chose instead to prioritize his child’s well-being.

Reportedly, in 2022, the property was listed for 5 million pesos, but no one showed interest. Julián passed away on April 9, 2023, and the house is now owned by his young son, José Julián.
