Ekovest gets govt approval for Laluan Istana-Kiara Expressway, Kampung Baru Link highway projects

Highway concessionaire Ekovest has received approval from the Malaysian government to proceed with the Laluan Istana-Kiara Expressway (LIKE) and the Kampung Baru Link Expressway (KBL), two highway projects which are under its highway expansion plan, reported The Star.

Wholly owned unit Lebuhraya DUKE Fasa 2A (LDF2A) was notified on Monday by the government of the approval to implement the LIKE project – previously referred to as the Istana Link – and the KBL project, The Star reported. LIKE and KBL projects are respectively the first and second phases of the highway expansion plan.

The government and LDF2A will sign the concession agreement for LIKE once its has been given clearance by the attorney-general’s chambers, Ekovest said. Meanwhile, the second phase that is KBL will see the public-private partnership unit work with relevant ministries and LDF2A to finalise key terms of the concession by December 31, 2026.

The proposal was first disclosed in January 2017, when Ekovest received principle approval from the government for the privatisation of KBL, LIKE and the Kapar Expressway, collectively spanning 75.2 km in length.

The project was estimated at the time to cost RM6.32 billion, with the intention of providing “vital connectivity and direct linkage for movement in and around Kuala Lumpur city centre and complete the missing link for seamless travelling in and out of Greater Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley,” according to The Star.
