Dozens of Teachers to Attend NCTE Annual Convention through New Scholarship Program

Rise Up Foundation grant expands professional development, peer collaboration opportunities for K–8 educators

Fifty teachers in classrooms from kindergarten through eighth grade will receive funding to attend the country’s defining gathering of English language arts educators through a new scholarship program supported by the Rise Up Foundation in partnership with the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).

Scholarships will cover registration fees for educators to attend the 2025 NCTE Annual Convention in Denver this November. In addition, scholarship recipients will participate in an exclusive, interactive writing workshop and will be recognized at a private dinner with other teachers and education organization leaders.

NCTE is the professional organization for literacy teachers spanning preK–college. The Rise Up Foundation, founded by author Alane Adams, is dedicated to improving literacy among children in communities that are traditionally underserved.

“Rise Up Foundation’s generosity is a timely signal of support to K–8 teachers,” said Emily Kirkpatrick, Executive Director of NCTE. “This grant will increase access to the largest annual gathering of ELA educators in the US.”

A cornerstone component of the NCTE Annual Convention is its series of luncheons, driven by the expertise of teachers. All scholarship recipients will receive a ticket to either the Children’s Book Award Luncheon or the Middle-Grades Luncheon, providing unique opportunities to connect with peers, authors, and thought leaders in youth literature and literacy instruction.

“The Rise Up Foundation believes that by investing in children’s literacy, we can create a brighter future for all students. And an investment in English language arts teachers is an investment in children’s literacy,” Adams said. “By providing teachers with measurable, meaningful support and personalized interaction and opportunities, we can ensure that elementary and middle grades students not only stay on track in their literacy skill development—they excel.”
