Breakout forward Aliaksei Protas‘s playoff status is suddenly in doubt. The Washington Capitals sniper is out week-to-week with a lower-body injury, head coach Spencer Carbery told reporters on Sunday. Protas was injured Friday during the third period of a 5-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks when he needed assistance to get off the ice. The Belarus native appeared to favour his lower left leg. Protas, 24, has recorded 30 goals and 36 assists for 66 points in 76 games for the East-leading Capitals. His previous career highs, set last season, were six goals and 23 assists. The Capitals have six games remaining on their regular-season schedule, which wraps up April 17.
