Blue Jays assign Arjun Nimmala to high-A Vancouver, Trey Yesavage to low-A Dunedin

The Toronto Blue Jays‘ two most recent first-round picks have their assignments to start 2025.

Arjun Nimmala will be getting a bump up to the high-A Vancouver Canadians after spending most of 2024 with the low-A Dunedin Blue Jays, while Trey Yesavage will make his pro debut in low-A Dunedin.

Nimmala, the 19-year-old shortstop, impressed during MLB spring training with the Blue Jays, where he recorded two extra-base hits in 10 at-bats.

In his first full season of professional baseball, Nimmala slashed .232/.325/.482 over 90 games, slugging 17 homers and stealing nine bases. After a slow start, the 2023 first-rounder was placed on the development list, but came back and saw his production skyrocket.

From his return at the end of June until the end of Dunedin’s season, Nimmala posted an .894 OPS and cut his strikeout rate by nearly five percentage points.

Yesavage, meanwhile, was 20th overall in last summer’s draft but did not latch on in the minor leagues after his college season.

The East Carolina University alum had an 11-1 record for the Pirates last spring, striking out 145 hitters over 93.1 innings while carrying a 2.03 ERA.

A six-foot-four right-hander, Yesavage got his first taste of action in a Blue Jays uniform during March’s Spring Breakout game against a team of Minnesota Twins prospects.

Yesavage was named to the All-Spring Breakout Second Team after striking out three over two scoreless innings.
