You won’t find many new or noteworthy models from Japanese brands at the 2025 Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS), other than at Mazda, which has two eye-catching cars on stage – the stunning Iconic SP that dropped all our jaws at Tokyo 2023 and this, the Mazda 6e.
The Mazda 6e is being previewed at BIMS ahead of its Thai launch later this year and it’s described in the local press release as the first ‘100% electric vehicle (BEV) developed by Mazda under the multi-solution technology approach’. That would be ignoring the MX-30 and the fact that the 6e is a reskinned Deepal L07. Mazda and Changan (brand owner of Deepal) are long-time partners in China.
The local release also claims 50:50 weight distribution, an 80 kWh battery that delivers 552 km of range and ‘fast charge’ technology, allowing it get from 30-80% SoC in just 15 minutes. “The car also embodies the powerful driving performance for which Mazda is known, developed by Mazda’s engineers who meticulously attended to every detail,” the statement adds. We can ignore that. In any case, China is leading the EV charge and they’re good at this.
Whoever developed it, the 6e (EZ-6 in China) is a fine looking car with a nice interior. As we’ve seen at BIMS for two years running, Deepal has the most interesting and good-looking cars among the Chinese brands, L07 included. The 6e is made by Changan in China and the right-hand-drive car for Thailand will hail from there as well (BIMS showcar is LHD).
In Europe, the 6e will be offered in two variants, both with a single rear motor. The base car produces 258 PS (190 kW) and 320 Nm taking juice from a 68.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery for 479 km WLTP range. The Long Range makes slightly less power (245 PS, 180 kW) but has a larger 80 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery for up to 552 km range.
All roads lead to Bermaz? Coincidentally, the Malaysian Mazda distributor recently welcomed the Deepal brand into its fold, so after-sales won’t be a problem should it be offered in our market. With a RHD version confirmed for Thailand, will we also get this sharp-suited, Mazda-badged electric sedan in Malaysia? What do you think of the 6e? More on the Deepal L07 here.
