“We Just Couldn’t Do It”: 'The Last of Us' Creator Reveals Where the Series Improves on the Game

HBO's The Last of Us is viewed by many as being one of the best adaptations of any video game ever. Season 1 was led by Bella Ramsey's Ellie and Pedro Pascal's Joel. By the time Season 2 premiered a few weeks ago, the pair were at odds, and sadly for them, they never got around to reconciliation as Joel was killed by Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), a former Firefly. In 2020's The Last of Us Part 2, Joel's death was met with a fiery ride to Seattle by Ellie, but the aftermath of Joel's death in Season 2, Episode 3, was a lot more solemn and measured. While it might not have pleased some viewers on the internet, who have presumably played the games. Co-showrunner and game director Neil Druckmann expanded on the decision.
