Virginia shooting during illegal gun sale leaves 3 dead, police say

Four suspects, including three juveniles, have been arrested in connection with a Tuesday night shooting that left three people dead, Sheriff Roger L. Harris of Spotsylvania County, Virginia announced Wednesday.

The violence stemmed from an "illegal gun sale/robbery" gone wrong, the sheriff's office said.

Jeremiah Upson, 18, was charged with the use of a firearm in commission of a felony, malicious wounding and unlawful assembly with a firearm or weapon, according to jail records. The three juveniles, two of whom are 16 and one 17 years old, face the same charges, according to the sheriff's office.

One of the 16-year-old suspects was shot during the incident and is being treated at a local hospital. Mary Washington Healthcare confirmed to Fox News Digital Tuesday that it was treating one patient who was in fair condition.

Upson and two of the other suspects are being held without bond, and the fourth will be incarcerated upon release from the hospital, police said.

The deceased are 18-year-old Chase Feaster of Spotsylvania County, 18-year-old Alonzo Goffney of Spotsylvania County and a 20-year-old unnamed victim whose identity is being withheld for confirmation from the medical examiner's office.

Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) deputies received information at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday about a shooting in Spotsylvania, Virginia — a suburb about 60 miles south of Washington, D.C.

When deputies arrived, they found multiple people who were shot, according to a news release.

As of 7:45 p.m., the sheriff’s office confirmed three people were dead, and another three people were taken to local hospitals, according to the release.

Maj. Elizabeth Scott with the sheriff's office said at a press conference that the victims were found outside, according to WTTG.

"I mean this is probably as bad as it can get with at least six people being shot right now. It's been a stressful 24 hours," Scott said.

Two men were seen in the area of the shooting carrying guns shortly before the incident unfolded, according to video obtained by WTTG, but the sheriff's office is not connecting them to the shooting at this time.

"This is an active and fluid investigation," according to SCSO officials. "No suspect(s) have been apprehended at this time … We ask the public to please stay clear of the area."

Fredericksburg City Public Schools opened on a two-hour delay on Wednesday due to the "profound impact this incident has had on members of our school community," the district said on X.
