“Very Limited Access to the Toys”: ‘Daredevil’ Showrunner Explains the Flagship Show's Loose Connections to the MCU

When anyone thinks about the character of Daredevil from the MCU recently, their minds go pretty quickly to the Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again. By the time the Season 1 finale aired, the show saw Matt (Charlie Cox) team up with Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal), as the trio formed a squad to take on the AVTF (Anti-Vigilante Task Force) led by Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio). But prior to arriving earlier this year, the character had featured prominently in the Netflixseries, Daredevil. The show was widely acclaimed and ushered in a new dynasty of Marvel storytelling, but the absence of major players from the wider MCU was certainly felt in the self-contained format. Daredevil Season 1 showrunner Steven DeKnight has expanded on why the Netflix series only had loose connections to the MCU, and how, in his opinion, it proved to be a good thing for the series.
