‘Until Dawn’ Outlasts Robert Eggers’ 91% Rotten Tomatoes Breakout Horror Hit at Global Box Office

With Final Destination: Bloodlines lined up for release next week, there isn’t much time left for Sony’s Until Dawn to pass the $50 million mark at the global box office. The horror movie has performed modestly so far, despite mediocre reviews. While it has struggled to attain the level of success that the genre would dependably experience with studio releases until a few years ago, Until Dawn has managed to outperform a string of recent horror movies. The last few years have seen a curious decline in interest in mainstream horror, with more artistic movies breaking through the clutter. For instance, one of this year’s biggest scary movies is The Monkey, while one of last year’s biggest horror films was Robert Eggers' Nosferatu.
