There Was a Time When James Gunn Could Have Helmed ‘Thunderbolts*’
Long before Jake Schreier brought Thunderbolts* to the silver screen, James Gunn was considering taking a crack at the antiheroes.
Thunderbolts*, much like its titular team of antiheroes, is enjoying a surprising wellspring of success. It's had quite a great opening weekend, and it's shaping up to be one of the rare blockbusters that appeals to both criticsand general audiences. A large part of that appeal lies in the approach that Jake Schreier brought to the table; he tackled themes of mental health while also providing a unique, outright chaotic dynamic between the Thunderbolts. Schrier even spent the better part of six to seven months pitching Thunderbolts* to Marvel Studios. But before Schrier brought the Thunderbolts to the big screen, another director had his eye on the team of antiheroes—James Gunn.
