Samsung has finally done it. After an initial tease at Unpacked back in January and a few more glimpses since, Samsung has finally unveiled the Galaxy S25 Edge.

This is Samsung’s new “thin” phone, and it does just barely edge out its older thinnest phone – the Galaxy A8 (2015), which was just 5.9mm thin. The Galaxy S25 Edge is now 5.8mm, which is a solid 2.4mm thinner than the Galaxy S25 Ultra. And about 1.4mm thinner than the Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus.

Of course, to hit this level of thinness, Samsung did have to make some sacrifices. Like the battery and camera. As rumors had already confirmed, the Galaxy S25 Edge does have a small 3,900mAh capacity battery inside. To put things in perspective, the Galaxy S25 has a 4,000mAh battery. It also has a dual camera setup. Which sports a 200-megapixel primary camera and then a 12-megapixel ultrawide. The main camera will use sensor cropping for a 2x optical zoom option.

Same performance as Galaxy S25 Ultra

Samsung says that they were able to expertly configure peak performance in an ultra-slim housing. Using the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset that is included in the rest of the Galaxy S25 series. This chipset is able to support the on-device AI processing for the Galaxy S25 Edge. Samsung also reconfigured the inside of the phone to include a vapor chamber that is now thinner but broader for steady heat dissipation.

It’s pretty impressive that Samsung was able to fit a vapor chamber in a phone that is only 5.8mm thick.

Of course, the Galaxy S25 Edge also sports Android 15 with One UI 7. So you’re going to get a bunch of other goodies that the other Galaxy S25 models also sport. Including Now Brief and Now Bar. These now have third-party app integrations, providing an even better experience. Samsung also has a pretty deep integration with Google, allowing for loads of new Gemini enhancements and much more.

The new trend of thin phones is here

While many of us are still confused as to why companies are doing these super-thin phones, that trend is indeed here. In addition to the Galaxy S25 Edge, we’re also expecting to see the iPhone 17 Air later this year, as well as the TECNO Spark Slim. TECNO actually announced their phone at MWC in March, and it’s expected to go on sale very soon. However, it is not a flagship phone, and instead will be priced at under $200.

It’s a trend that might not stick around. Users want phones with longer-lasting batteries, better cameras, and bigger displays. All of which require a larger body. So we’ll have to wait and see what happens here.
