Sally Hawkins Gets Bloody in Exclusive ‘Bring Her Back’ Image [Summer Preview]

Talk to Me directing duo Danny and Michael Philippou are back this summer with the highly anticipated horror movie Bring Her Back. Bloody Disgusting’s exclusive Summer Preview 2025 sneak peek at the Philippous’ sophomore effort gives an ominous new peek at Two-time Academy Award nominee Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water) in the film.

A24 will release Bring Her Back in theaters on May 30, 2025.

The upcoming A24 horror movie is rated “R” for “Strong disturbing bloody violent content, some grisly images, graphic nudity, underage drinking and language.“

Here’s the official plot synopsis…

A brother and sister uncover a terrifying ritual at the secluded home of their new foster mother.

Billy Barratt, Sora Wong, Jonah Wren Phillips, Sally-Anne Upton, Stephen Phillips, and Mischa Heywood also star in the film written by Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman.

Marketing has done an incredible job shrouding Bring Her Back in mystery, and that’s by design. “I watch trailers, I remember every shot in a trailer,“ Michael told press at a recent event, “and I find myself, when I’m watching the movie, waiting for those moments. And you’re like, ‘Okay, well, I know that they’re alive, because that hasn’t happened in this scene, you know?‘ And it’s always that balance, because you want to sell the movie, but then you also don’t want to spoil it. A24 is on the same page. Trust me, the trailer doesn’t show the half of it.”

While that means we still don’t know much about the horror that’ll ensue, other than the trailer looking suitably creepy, we do know that the inspiration behind the film is deeply personal. Danny recalled how a tragic loss mid-writing influenced the brothers’ newest film.

“The idea of a never ending grief cycle is terrifying to me, and seeing raw grief like that is terrifying,” he explains. “And that just happened while we were writing. So, that became part of the screenwriting process, and it always is a way to express those things, or look at those things in a fun way. Hopefully it’s fun … it’ll probably not be.”

That indicates we’re likely in store for another brutal horror knockout from the Philippous this summer, supported by Bloody Disgusting’s bloody new look at Sally Hawkins’ character above.
