Max
After Netflix’s success with password sharing, Warner Bros. Discovery is following suit with its Max streaming service – launching the ‘Extra Member Add-On’ feature in the U.S. today priced at $7.99/month.
The feature lets a primary account owner to share their Max account by inviting a friend or family member outside of their household to create a separate, standalone account with an adult profile under the same subscription. [Source: Variety]
Honey Don’t
Ethan Coen’s “Honey Don’t,” the second instalment (after “Drive-Away Dolls”) of the lesbian B-movie trilogy he and partner Tricia Cooke are co-writing and co-directing, has set a wide U.S. theatrical release on August 22nd through Focus Features.
Margaret Qualley plays Honey O’Donahue, a small-town private investigator who delves into a series of strange deaths tied to a mysterious church. Chris Evans, Aubrey Plaza, Charlie Day and Billy Eichner also star in the film which will have its world premiere at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. [Source: Focus Features]
Jonestown
Bill Hader (“Barry”) and Daniel Zelman (“Damages,” “Bloodline”) are currently developing an HBO series centered on Jim Jones and the events at the Peoples Temple Agricultural Project (aka Jonestown) which led to a mass murder-suicide in 1978 in Guyana. Hader is being eyed to potentially star in the series while he and Zelman co-write, executive produce and serve as co-showrunners. Hader would also direct. [Source: Variety]
Pee Wee As Himself
Max has premiered the trailer for its original two-part documentary “Pee-Wee As Himself”. Directed by Matt Wolf, the doco was made from over 40 hours of interview footage filmed before Paul Reubens’ death in 2023.
It will feature a “soul-baring” interview with the late Reubens, the comedic performer behind the iconic Pee-wee Herman character including a look into his never before discussed personal life. “Pee-Wee As Himself” debuts Saturday, May 24th.
