Panthers’ Tkachuk will not receive supplemental discipline for hit on Guentzel
It seems that Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk avoided additional consequences from the NHL stemming from his Game 3 ejection.

It seems that Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk avoided additional consequences from the NHL stemming from his Game 3 ejection.
Tkachuk will not have a hearing or receive any supplemental discipline for his hit on Tampa Bay Lightning forward Jake Guentzel Saturday night, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on Sunday.
The reasoning for the NHL department of player safety’s decision is that the force of the hit was not considered to be at the level of Brandon Hagel’s on Aleksander Barkov, there was no head contact and Guentzel touched the puck, Friedman added.
The Panthers forward was given a major penalty and sent off after the hit in the final minutes of Game 3.
The hit occurred right as Guentzel made a play on Anthony Cirelli’s empty-netter to give the Lightning a 5-1 lead with five minutes left in the game.
Guentzel did remain in the game as his teammates confronted Tkachuk following the hit. After the game, the Lightning forward said he hoped the NHL would consider discipline on Tkachuk for the hit.
“I passed the puck and it felt like a long time after I got hit,” Guentzel said. “I’m sure the league’s going to take a look at it. We know the history of what’s happened the last couple games. I’m sure they’ll do their job.”

Tkachuk has been suspended four times during his NHL career, the last coming in 2017 for spearing former Detroit Red Wings defenceman Luke Witkowski.
This series has featured its fair share of rough play with Hagel suspended for Game 3 following a late hit on Barkov.
Lightning coach Jon Cooper, however, saw a difference between the Hagel and Tkachuk incidents.
“The only players we hit are the ones with pucks,” he said.
Tampa Bay has cut Florida’s series lead to 2-1 and will host Game 4 on Monday at 7 p.m. ET on Sportsnet 360 and Sportsnet+.
