PS Store scam

A large number of PS Store users have fallen for a scam game, with its developer managing to avoid a Sony ban with a clever trick: changing the game’s title. This is the second time in a month that players have been conned out of their money by PS Store listings that copy popular PC games not currently available on console.

Players fell for scam Schedule 1 game on PS Store

The game in question this time is Schedule 1 — a popular open-world crime simulator currently in early access on PC. The game became a massive hit, leading to scam developers like “PublishMe Agency Limited” making copycat PS Store listings that mislead unsuspecting folks into thinking that they’re purchasing the real thing.

It appears that at least 1,600 players fell for the $14.99 fake Schedule 1 on PS Store, going by the amount of ratings it received (only open to those who make a purchase). PublishMe Agency Limited has since changed the game’s title to “Weed Drug Empire,” removing any references to Schedule 1.

That the game’s still on PS Store leads us to believe that either Sony forced the title change or PublishMe Agency Limited decided to change the name itself to avoid repercussions.

Whatever the case, if you fell for this one, don’t expect refunds anytime soon.
