All three of Team Penske’s IndyCar drivers have made significant contractual or managerial moves in the offseason.
Two-time champion and 2018 Indy 500 winner Will Power was the first, signing onto Fernando Alonso’s A14 management firm. Power has his former KV Racing teammate Oriol Servia, who serves as A14’s North America representative, as his new manager who will negotiate the Australian’s next contract. Power’s current deal with Penske runs through the end of the year, and according to Team Penske president Tim Cindric, a decision on whether the team will holds onto Power will be made after May’s Indy 500.
“We’re open-minded on all that,” Cindric told RACER. “I know him pretty well and think a lot of him. We just want the best for him, and from a timing perspective, I think it’ll be similar to Josef’s situation last year, where we get through Indy and figure out where we’re going.”
Penske’s Scott McLaughlin (pictured, top) enters the new season with a new contract extension of his own.
“Signed a long-term extension in the off-season with Team Penske,” he wrote in a social media post. “And have been absolutely 100% focused on prep for this year. Let’s kick this season off right! STRAIGHT. TO. THE. MOON.”
And Newgarden, who signed a multi-year extension of his own in 2024, has signed with the athlete management agency KLUTCH Sports formed and owned by NBA champion LeBron James and his business partner Rich Paul.
“KLUTCH Sports Group has signed its first professional racing client, 2x IndyCar racing champion Josef Newgarden,” the agency said in today’s announcement.
The two-time champion and Indy 500 winner joins the likes of James, Anthony Davis, DeAndre Hopkins, and a wide array of stick-and-ball players under the KLUTCH banner.
