Not eligible for the Sapphire Preferred? Don’t miss out on this awesome welcome offer — which also ends next week

Over the last several weeks, the points and miles world has been abuzz with the limited-time offer on the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (see rates and fees). We now know this welcome bonus will end next week (May 15 at 9 a.m. EDT, to be exact), so anyone who’s eligible should take advantage of it while they can.

However, this is not the only elevated welcome bonus on a fantastic travel card that’ll be gone next week.

Ending soon: Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card — Earn 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 in the first three months. Plus, receive a $250 Capital One Travel credit to use in the first year.

The reality is that many travelers are not eligible for the Sapphire Preferred’s bonus. You may have gotten in on the last time the card was offering 100,000 bonus points, or maybe you already have its higher-annual-fee family member, the Chase Sapphire Reserve® (see rates and fees).

Or for those who love adding new credit cards to their wallet, you might be at (or above) Chase’s 5/24 rule, and thus not eligible for any new Chase card.

If any of those situations apply to you — and if you’re looking to unlock a solid haul of rewards ahead of the busy summer travel season — here’s why you should grab the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card today.

Limited-time offer ends May 12

The Capital One Venture Rewards card is currently offering 75,000 bonus miles once you spend $4,000 on purchases within the first three months from account opening, plus a one-time $250 Capital One Travel credit to use in your first cardholder year.

The bonus miles alone are incredibly valuable, but it’s the kicker of the Capital One Travel credit that makes this offer super lucrative.

As soon as you’re approved for the card and can set up your online login, you’ll see the $250 credit in your Capital One Travel account. It’ll then be automatically applied toward flights, hotel reservations or car rentals booked through Capital One Travel. The credit will expire one year from account opening.

This makes it incredibly flexible as you’re looking ahead to summer vacation. After all, many of you are currently planning those getaways with your family, friends or loved ones. By adding the Capital One Venture Rewards card to your wallet today, you’ll have a chance to save up to $250 on your travel costs this summer.

Solid perks for a low annual fee

Beyond that, the Capital One Venture Rewards card offers some really solid perks that (dare I say?) make it even more appealing than the Sapphire Preferred — bonus notwithstanding.

For example, cardholders can receive a statement credit of up to $120 every four years to cover a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck membership. That’s a rarity on a card with just a $95 annual fee, and having access to this priority clearance back into the U.S. and expedited security screening can really enhance your experience at the airport.

(Note that our recommendation is to go with Global Entry, even if you don’t have any immediate plans to travel internationally. That’s because Global Entry includes TSA PreCheck, and you’ll have access to both expedited screening programs for five years.)

We’ve even seen a significant opening of Global Entry interview appointments at enrollment centers across the country. I just happened to look earlier this week for a colleague, and the enrollment center at Miami International Airport (MIA) showed wide-open availability throughout the month of May.

That means that you could get the Venture card today, apply for Global Entry as soon as the card arrives and potentially be approved in a matter of weeks — perfect timing for the busy summer travel season.

In addition, the card offers access to the Capital One Lifestyle Collection, a curated set of hotels around the world that allow you to enjoy a variety of perks as a cardholder, including an on-property credit and a chance of a room upgrade. These properties are even eligible for the $250 Capital One Travel credit that you get as part of the current welcome offer.

Valuable, flexible rewards

Finally, the card’s everyday earning rate is fantastic, as you’ll earn 2 miles per dollar spent on every purchase you make.

And Capital One miles are incredibly flexible. You can use them to offset travel purchases charged directly to the card at a rate of 1 cent per point, giving you a minimum return of 2% on your everyday spending. If you redeem your miles this way and include the travel credit, that puts the value of the bonus at $1,000.

However, Capital One also has 15-plus airline and hotel transfer partners that can potentially unlock even more value.

For example, I recently transferred 70,000 Capital One miles to Air Canada Aeroplan to book a one-way, business-class flight to Europe in November, a flight that retails for nearly $3,500.

Thanks to these partners, we value Capital One miles at 1.85 cents apiece in our May 2025 valuations, which means that the welcome bonus right now is valued at well over $1,500.

Bottom line

The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is currently offering a limited-time welcome bonus that expires Monday, May 12, so this is a great opportunity to snag a lucrative bonus on a low-annual-fee card, especially if you aren’t eligible to get the Sapphire Preferred.

My wife was in this exact scenario, as she already has the Sapphire Preferred and got her bonus in the fall of 2021, making her ineligible to get it again. She applied and was immediately approved for the Venture card earlier this year, and we’ve already earned the 75,000-mile bonus and plan to use the $250 Capital One Travel credit for an intra-Europe flight this summer.

However, time’s running out on this offer — so apply today before it’s too late.
