Nicolas Cage Loses His Mind and Seeks Uncaged Revenge in Official Trailer for ‘The Surfer’

The psychological thriller The Surfer from director Lorcan Finnegan (VivariumNocebo) is headed to theaters this Spring from Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions, and the official trailer has been uncaged this afternoon. Nicolas Cage stars. Watch the trailer below.

The trailer for The Surfer suggests the sort of bonkers freakout that we’ve come to expect from Nicolas Cage genre movies, with Cage playing a man who absolutely loses his mind after a gang of local surfers decide to make his life a living hell. How crazy does this one get? Well, the trailer shows Cage stuffing a rat down somebody’s throat. Yeah. That kind of crazy.

Here’s the official synopsis…

When a man (Nicolas Cage) returns to his beachside hometown in Australia, many years since building a life for himself in the U.S., he is humiliated in front of his teenage son by a local gang of surfers who claim strict ownership over the secluded beach of his childhood.

Wounded, he decides to remain at the beach, declaring war against those in control of the bay. As the conflict escalates, the stakes spin out of control, taking him to the edge of sanity.

Julian McMahon, Nic Cassim, Miranda Tapsell, Alexander Bertrand, Justin Rosniak, Rahel Romahn, Finn Little and Charlotte Maggi star alongside Nicolas Cage.

“Lorcan’s movie is a stunning visual experience with an incredible palette, coupled with Nicolas Cage at his absolute best,” Lionsgate’s Lauren Bixby said in a recent statement.

Thomas Martin wrote the screenplay for The Surfer.

No release date has been provided at this time. Stay tuned.
