The upcoming “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” film adaptation has found its lead role and their love interest.
Joseph Zada, an Australian actor best known for TV series like “Invisible Boys” and “We Were Liars,” has landed the role of the young Haymitch Abernathy – an earlier version of the District 12 winner played by Woody Harrelson in the main films.
Also joining the cast is Whitney Peak (“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” “Hocus Pocus 2”) who will play the role of Lenore Dove Baird, Haymitch’s girlfriend.
“Sunrise on the Reaping” is set 24 years before the events of the original films and during the 50th Hunger Games. It tells the story of how Haymitch won that year, the only District 12 victor until Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark came along.
Francis Lawrence returns to direct the film while Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson are producing. Billy Ray is writing the script.
“The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” will be released in cinemas on November 20th 2026.
