Multiple weigh-in issues lead to cancelled bouts at UFC Fight Night

Two matchups were removed from the preliminary card of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas after multiple athletes had issues making weight.

The organization announced Friday that a women’s flyweight matchup between Montana De La Rosa and Luana Carolina was cancelled because of weight management issues with Carolina.

A 140-pound catchweight bout, originally scheduled as a bantamweight contest, between Douglas Silva de Andrade and John Castaneda was also cancelled due to a medical issue on the Silva de Andrade side. That cancellation was announced after both fighters had already weighed in at an even 140 pounds.

Featherweight Lucas Almeida missed weight by two pounds ahead of his clash with Danny Silva, however, this matchup will proceed at a catchweight with Almeida being fined 20 per cent of his purse.

It wasn’t all bad news at Friday’s official weigh-in.

The five-round flyweight main event between Manel Kape and Asu Almabayev was made official when both fighters stepped on the scale at 126 pounds, taking advantage of the one-pound allowance given for non-title matchups.

Kape has had issues making weight on multiple occasions during his UFC career but made weight on his first attempt ahead of his first UFC main event opportunity.

The 10-bout card from the UFC Apex also features lightweights Nasrat Haqparast and Esteban Ribovics, neither of whom are averse to a brawl.

Ribovics is coming off a win over Daniel Zellhuber at the UFC’s Sphere show in September, while Haqparast will be looking for his fifth consecutive win overall.

Below is the projected bout order and official athlete weights for Saturday’s card.
