Dezeen Showroom: German lighting brand Midgard Licht has evolved one of its iconic designs associated with the Bauhaus school to create Modular Neo table and floor lamps, presented at Euroluce 2025.
The Modular Neo lamps are an evolution of Midgard Licht's TYP 113 lamp, one of the first serially produced adjustable lamps in the world, which were found in the interiors at the Bauhaus Dessau.
Midgard Licht expanded this lighting design into a modular system in the 1920s and 30s, and has now made a rare new addition, combining the unmistakable modernist style with the latest technology in lighting and joints.
The Modular Neo lamps have an updated rectangular profile, which Midgard Licht says refines the lamp's lines "making them even purer and sleeker", and while they retain the signature die-cast joints of the Modular series, they are made in a new way that reduces production waste.
The feel of the Modular Neo lamp can be adapted with two lampshade options: the asymmetrical Oval is hand-flattened on one side, while the rectangular Sensor shade transforms the table lamp into a task light for workplaces and home offices.
The Sensor shade includes a brightness sensor and motion detector that turns the Modular Neo on when the desk is occupied and lighting is insufficient at less than 600 lux. It also switches off in stages if the workspace is empty or adequately lit.
