Live updates: Mike Waltz will reportedly leave Trump administration

National security adviser Mike Waltz is expected to leave his role in President Trump’s administration, according to reports from multiple outlets on Thursday.

In recent weeks, Waltz has come under fire by Democrats and Trump allies alike after inadvertently adding a Washington journalist to a Signal group chat where senior administration officials discussed a forthcoming attack on Yemen. The president defended Waltz, a former Florida lawmaker, after The Atlantic first reported about the chat's existence in March, saying he learned "a lesson" and was "a good man."

In April, several members of the National Security Council were fired after far-right activist Laura Loomer raised questions about some officials loyalty to the president.

Waltz's reported ouster all comes as Trump wraps up a week of events marking a milestone of his second term with yet another packed schedule.

The president will deliver remarks at a National Day of Prayer event at 11 a.m. at the White House and then will fly to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to address the class of 2025 at the University of Alabama at 8 p.m. EDT.

With a rally and media interviews — including a NewsNation town hall on Wednesday night — Trump has celebrated his administration’s successes over its first 100 days. He’s held firm that his economic strategy, including stiff tariffs, is the right course for the nation, despite polling that shows a dip in his approval rating and rising concern among GOP lawmakers.

Congressional lawmakers wrap up their week on Thursday, as they work furiously to get a reconciliation bill, “One Big Beautiful Bill,” pulled together for a vote targeted for later this month.
