Jim Cramer: Trump looking for 'less-confrontational style' with China trade truce

CNBC pundit Jim Cramer praised President Trump after the U.S. and China announced an agreement Monday to pause an ongoing trade battle between two of the world's largest superpowers.

“This to me, is a signal that there is maybe a different kind of President Trump happening,” Cramer said on CNBC Monday morning. “President Trump seems to be looking for [a] less confrontational style. And this may be the beginning of what I regard as being kind of a little more politics as usual, for Trump.”

Cramer's comments were first highlighted by Mediate.

The 90-day tariff pause will effect most retaliatory tariffs imposed on both the U.S. and China as part of ongoing tensions between the two sides since early April.

The news led to a quick surge on Well Street to start the week on Monday.

Cramer said Trump has "the art of the deal going," with his posture toward China and trade and this development could help the U.S. on other issues relating to China.

“But you also have this, wait a second, maybe we ... ought to be more part of the council of nations," Cramer continued. "Let’s pull back from the idea that Taiwan could be in play. Let’s pull back from the idea that there’s a military solution to this."

Cramer, a leading host and analyst at the business news channel for years, has not shied away from criticizing Trump during the early days of his second term.
