MACAU, CHINA. Today’s selection features the retail debut of Global Drinks Ltd-owned Misaka Japanese whisky in Macau, both with Avolta at Macau International Airport and King Power Duty Free at one of the Special Administrative Region’s ferry terminal stores.
As reported, Misaka is the realisation of Global Drinks Founder & Managing Director Harry Kartasis’s dream to own his own Japanese whisky brand.
The entirely travel retail-exclusive brand portfolio was unveiled at the TFWA Asia Pacific show in Singapore last May and has since made rapid inroads within duty free, a channel in which Global Drinks specialises.
The Misaka range includes a 3-5 Year Old pure malt; a 12 Year Old pure malt finished in PX Sherry Oloroso casks; and a 12 Year Old pure malt finished in rare Hokkaido Mizunara (Japanese oak) casks. They are complemented by 15, 18 and 21 Year blended and pure malt expressions also finished in Mizunara oak.
The brand made its retail debut with Avolta-run Hong Kong Duty Free at West Kowloon Railway Station last May. Later in the year it was listed by Delhi Duty Free at Indira Gandhi International Airport and with Aelia Duty Free at Auckland Airport.
In late 2024 Misaka was honoured with the Grand Gold award in the category above INR10,000 (US$120) for its Sherry PX Cask 12 Year Old at the Spiritz Conclave and Achievers Awards 2024 in India.
Speaking of the Macau listings on LinkedIn, Kartasis said, “We are excited to be in Macau for the launch of Misaka whisky at Macau International Airport, in partnership with world-renowned retailer Avolta.
“Alongside the product launch, Global Drinks Ltd’s Key Account Director Marinas Yau led a training session with Avolta’s outstanding Sales Ambassadors – our vital partners in growing the Misaka brand.
“We’re equally thrilled to see Misaka featured at the Macau Ferry Terminal through our valued collaboration with King Power, a key retailer with whom we share a close relationship. Macau remains a strategic and crucial market for Misaka’s growth, and we are energised by the progress we are making in this important location.”
