Ahead of this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix, a prototype of the Honda 0 SUV made its global public debut at the ‘Red Bull Showrun x Powered by Honda’ event in Tokyo. The all-electric SUV was first announced at this year’s Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in January and is part of the brand’s 0 Series of electric vehicles (EVs), which also includes the Saloon.
The left-hand drive prototype was driven by four-time Formula One world champion Max Verstappen, who was joined by local hero Yuki Tsunoda. According to the Japanese automaker, the SUV participated in a demonstration drive and was wearing a specially designed wrap featuring geometric lines and reflections of light, which visual represents its new approach to EV development dubbed ‘Thin, Light and Wise’.
Visually, the prototype looks nearly identical to the “bare” vehicle shown on stage in January. The upright front features pixel-style daytime running lights set above the car’s main headlamps, while flush door handles adorn the sides – the charge port is on the left side near the front fender.
The 0 SUV’s distinctive profile is also untouched, with a sloping roofline that terminates abruptly at the massive rear fenders. The high-rise fenders are met with a “canopy” that goes over a small window that is framed by U-shaped taillights, while the lower apron has a sizeable diffuser-like element.
Honda says the 0 SUV will be build on a new dedicated EV platform, with production set to start at its EV Hub in Ohio ahead of a market introduction in North America in 2026. Launches in global markets, including Japan and Europe will follow soon after. In total, there will be seven 0 Series models that will be introduced globally by 2030.
