Chery still China’s top car exporter – 255k units in Q1

Having sold 214,770 units in March (+18% year-on-year, or YoY), the Chery Group has closed the year’s first quarter (1Q25) with sales of 620,025 vehicles globally (+17% YoY) – the most it has sold in any calendar quarter in history – including 255,465 outside China, which means the Chinese car export crown stays firmly on Chery’s head, reports Car News China.

Of the 1Q25 sales total, 590,533 units, or 95%, were Chery-badged (+19% YoY). Also, 163,458 new energy vehicles (NEV – that’s hybrids, plug-in hybrids and battery-electric vehicles) were sold by the group in that quarter, marking an impressive 172% YoY jump.

In March alone, 118,955 Chery, 54,020 Jetour, 10,005 Luxeed, 7,618 Exeed and 7,016 iCar vehicles found homes globally, while the Chery Tiggo 5X‘s cumulative overseas sales have broken one million units to allow it to join the Tiggo 7 in the ‘million-export club’. March also saw 86,414 vehicles exported (+3% YoY) and 62,210 NEVs sold globally – the latter representing a huge YoY growth of over 125%.

As of end-March, the Chery Group’s global cumulative user base has exceeded 16.3 million, including over 4.7 million users outside China. The company aims to go public this year, having filed for a Hong Kong IPO last month to accelerate its EV ambitions.
