TORONTO — Rachel Homan scored a third win in the AMJ Players’ Championship as her Ottawa-based club looks to wrap up an incredible season by capturing the one Grand Slam of Curling title missing from their resumes.
Team Homan defeated Team Kerri Einarson of Gimli, Man., 5-3 during Draw 11 Thursday night to improve to a 3-1 record with one day remaining in round-robin action.
Homan also climbed to a 72-7 record on another season of riches that has seen her squad successfully defend the Canadian and world championships as well as claim two Grand Slam titles.
AMJ also sponsors Team Homan and its employees packed the on-ice Jackpotcity Lounge at the Mattamy Athletic Centre wearing Canada gear to cheer them on.

“It was really exciting, really fun to play in front of them, and I think we gave them a good show,” Homan told Sportsnet’s Robbie Doherty after the game. “It would be really special to finish off this week with a win when it’s possibly the last time here.”
Homan opened the Scotties Tournament of Hearts final rematch with the hammer and chipped Einarson’s rock off the button in the first end to count a single to start.
After Einarson (2-2) was forced to hit for one in the second, Homan raised her guard to connect with Einarson’s pair of stones and pull back into the lead 2-1.

AMJ Players’ Championship on Sportsnet
The world’s best curling teams clash in the fifth and final Grand Slam of Curling event of the season at the AMJ Players’ Championship in Toronto. Watch live coverage Thursday to Sunday on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
Einarson held shot rock in the fourth and attempted to hit off of a rock from the side of the house and in for a multiple score, but her shooter sailed straight through the house untouched.
Just when it looked like Homan was going to wreck in the fifth, the 17-time Grand Slam champion’s shooter chipped and rolled in to count for a point.
The back-and-forth pendulum stayed with Homan in the sixth as Einarson was heavy on her draw to concede a point and trail 4-2.

A routine double from Homan in the seventh forced Einarson to draw for another lonely point and hand over the hammer coming home.
With Einarson sitting shot rock partially buried in the eighth, Homan opted for a draw.
Sweepers Sarah Wilkes and Emma Miskew dragged it in far enough into the eight-foot circle to secure the victory.
“I thought we battled hard,” Homan told Doherty. “They threw everything at us, tons of rocks in play. I’m sure it was really entertaining for the fans. Just some lines that fooled us. We stayed tough and battled right to the end.”
