‘Hive’ – Tubi Greenlights YA Real-Time Psychological Thriller Starring Xochitl Gomez

Today, Tubi announced a series of premium programming geared toward young adults, including social-thriller Hive starring Xochitl Gomez (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness).

Hive is described as “a socially conscious horror-thriller about a strict, anxious teenager (Gomez) who loses the child she’s babysitting and must brave a sinister force hiding in plain sight among the children in the playground. As her world unravels and her grip on reality starts to slip, she must outwit a world where nothing is as it seems, to make it out alive.”

The film is based on a short film by Felipe Vargas, who will write and direct the full feature length film.

If that name sounds familiar, it’s likely because Vargas has been keeping very busy as of late. While the rising filmmaker is no longer attached to helm the next Leprechaun installment, Vargas was announced last week to helm the survival thriller Propel, which sees a commercial diver who is swallowed by a giant sperm whale during a routine dive. Vargas’ feature debut, Rosario, is in theaters now.

Xochitl Gomez broke out as America Chavez in Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but the actor also starred in the Vargas’ short film, Hive, which is getting expanded here. There’s no word yet whether she’ll play the same character or if Vargas is taking a new approach to expanding his short.

The film is produced by Blue Ice Pictures, alongside Nick Scully, Adam Friedlander, and Darren Cameron. Lance Samuels and Samantha Levine serve as Executive Producers.
